Why do academic sources suddenly matter?
From the first HN term, assessors expect journal articles, textbooks and reports, cited in Harvard style. Blogs and revision websites rarely support a Merit claim.
24/7 WhatsApp support for BTEC, HNC and HND learners
An HND in Business asks for more each term: Learning Outcomes get broader, sources must be academic, and the Year 2 research project is set by Pearson, not your tutor. Our HND Business assignment help gives you a pathway specialist who maps every LO and assessment criterion, explains the theory against a real organisation, and writes a custom model answer you can learn from.

The real pressure points
Year 1 feels like a step up from school or a Level 3 course. Year 2 feels like another one. These are the problems Business learners raise with us most.
From the first HN term, assessors expect journal articles, textbooks and reports, cited in Harvard style. Blogs and revision websites rarely support a Merit claim.
Year 2 Distinction criteria ask you to weigh theories against each other, test them on your organisation and say where they fall short. Summaries of each model stop at Pass.
The research project follows a theme Pearson releases each year. Picking a question that fits it, is small enough to finish and still allows primary data is harder than it looks.
Accounting Principles in Year 1 and Financial Reporting on the finance pathway expect statements, ratios and budgets that balance, with commentary a manager could use.
Many HND learners work full time or study in the evening. Two or three briefs often land in the same month, sometimes with a presentation on top.
If you study at a Pearson centre in Lahore, Karachi or Lagos, you write to UK academic conventions. Tone, referencing and structure can feel unfamiliar at first.
Pearson centres treat unacknowledged AI-generated text as malpractice, in line with the JCQ guidance on AI use updated in April 2025. Learning to build your own argument from evidence is the safest route to a Merit or Distinction, and it is what our tutors coach.

Explain my criteriaHow we work
Six steps, designed around how Higher Nationals are assessed and internally verified.
Your tutor reads the scenario, each Learning Outcome and its P, M and D criteria, then marks where the jump between grades sits.
We confirm that the company in your brief, or the one you chose, has enough reports and data to support every criterion.
Models are chosen because the criterion calls for them: Mintzberg or Porter for strategy, Armstrong for HR, the 7Ps for marketing.
A pathway specialist writes an original worked answer in the report, plan or presentation format your centre expects.
A second tutor checks criteria coverage, figures and referencing, and we attach an originality report.
Ask questions, request changes within the brief, and send assessor feedback when it arrives so we can guide your next draft.

Pathways and units
The Pearson BTEC Higher National Diploma in Business (2021 RQF) is worth 240 credits. Year 1 covers the HNC stage at Level 4 (120 credits); Year 2 adds Level 5 units and your pathway. Unit choices vary by centre, so send your brief if a title is not listed. For the wider programme, see our HND assignment help hub.
The Level 4 core builds the base for everything after it. If you stop after Year 1 you hold an HNC; our HNC Business support covers that route.
Typical Level 4 core
Level 5 units ask for strategic judgement and research skills rather than description of how businesses work.
Typical Level 5 core
Focuses on operations, change and leading teams, often using your own workplace as the case.
Typical units
Campaigns, brands and digital channels, judged on how well your plan fits real customer and market data.
Typical units
People strategy, employment relations and talent planning, linked to UK employment law where the brief requires.
Typical units
Statements, management accounts and financial decision-making, with every figure worked through.
Typical units
Pearson Higher Nationals in Business are delivered by approved centres in many countries. Demand is especially strong in Pakistan and Nigeria, where many learners plan a UK degree top-up after the HND, and our tutors know that route well.

Each HND unit is graded Pass, Merit or Distinction against its Learning Outcomes. Every pass criterion must be met before higher grades count. If one is missing, the unit is referred: Pearson allows one reassessment, and a reassessed unit is capped at Pass.

When does the HND lead to a degree?
A completed HND can lead into the final year of a bachelor's degree, known as a top-up. Our Level 6 support and dissertation support pick up where the HND stops. Eligible adults in England may be able to use Lifelong Learning Entitlement funding for flexible study from January 2027; applications opened in September 2026.
Year 1 vs Year 2
Year 2 is where many learners who passed Year 1 comfortably meet their first referral. The difference is depth, not volume.
Year 1 rewarded clear explanation. Level 5 criteria expect you to judge which approach suits the organisation and defend that choice.
Two or three textbooks may carry a Year 1 report. Year 2 work needs a wider range, including recent journal articles.
Learners joining straight into Year 2 have not met the Year 1 core models, yet briefs assume them.
A long, self-directed piece with a proposal, literature review, methods, data and reflection, all to a Pearson theme.
Model answers show how to weigh two strategies, admit limitations and still reach a firm recommendation.
Tutors suggest credible sources for your topic and show how to use them, not just list them.
Short primers on the Year 1 core ideas your Level 5 briefs rely on, from stakeholder theory to ratio analysis.
Stage-by-stage coaching with checkpoints, so the proposal, methods and findings join up.

Plan my Year 2 catch-upFormats
HND Business briefs ask for the documents managers produce. Each format has its own conventions, and assessors notice when they are missing.
Executive summary, findings, analysis and recommendations, written for a decision-maker rather than a lecturer.
Environmental analysis, strategic options and a justified choice, often for Business Strategy at Level 5.
Slides plus speaker notes, sometimes a recorded pitch. We model concise slides and the notes behind them.
Statements, ratios, budgets and investment appraisal with clear workings and plain-English interpretation.
Proposal, literature review, methodology, primary or secondary data, analysis and reflection on the process.
Several units ask you to reflect on your learning or performance, using a model such as Gibbs or Kolb.

A typical case
How structured guidance can rescue a stalled Year 2 project. This illustrative example is based on common cases we see from distance learners.
Bilal's question about staff motivation in retail was broad and only loosely tied to that year's Pearson theme. His supervisor sent the proposal back for weak objectives and no clear method.
His tutor helped him focus on one textile retailer, three objectives and a short staff survey, so the project fitted both the theme and the word count.
Model extracts showed how to critique two motivation theories, justify a mixed-methods approach and link each finding back to an objective.
He rewrote the proposal, ran his own survey and wrote every chapter himself. The project was graded Merit, and he is now applying for a UK top-up year.
Most research project trouble starts with an oversized question. Narrowing it early saves weeks later.
Guidance you can learn from
Rescue a returned proposal or a referred chapter
You get comments against each criterion and a clear list of what to fix before you hand it back in, so the next version lands higher.
Learner feedback
Verbatim reviews from our public reviews page, from learners on Business units.
